(2)\u00a0\u00a0 You need to have food that doesn\u2019t need to be refrigerated and will not spoil. Canned fruits, vegetables, meats and beans are all non-perishable food items that can go in your storm safety kit. You should have a can opener handy to open the canned foods.<\/p>\n

(3)\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Often times during a storm, homes lose electrical power, so it\u2019s important to have a flashlight, a battery operated radio and additional batteries in your storm safety kit.<\/p>\n

(4)\u00a0\u00a0 You will need a corded telephone to contact others as well as a list of numbers of friends, relatives and utility companies.<\/p>\n

(5)\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Your storm safety kit must have a first aid kit. You should also include a bottle of aspirin and any necessary prescription medications.<\/p>\n

(6)\u00a0\u00a0 Being trapped inside for days can be boring, so you should supply your safety kit with things for entertainment such as board games and playing cards.<\/p>\n

(7)\u00a0\u00a0 Unfortunately, criminals take advantage of times where others are vulnerable. Blackouts caused by storms present them with the opportunity to ransack unprotected homes.
