First off, consider the placement of your control panel.\u00a0 Common places to put them is near the door or by a window, both which you shouldn\u2019t do.\u00a0 An intruder can easily spy through a window to see the combination you enter.\u00a0 The same goes for the door.\u00a0 Not to mention, it becomes easier for the intruder to find.\u00a0 If it\u2019s inside the house, less easily scene, it will take te thief more time to locate and disarm it and more time to contact the security company<\/p>\n

Usually a security system comes from a security company.\u00a0 That means the system should be linked up the company\u2019s network.\u00a0 There are certain systems that merely beep shrilly upon being broken into.\u00a0 While the loud noise is annoying, it is hardly useful.\u00a0 You can\u2019t rely on your neighbors to call the police for you.\u00a0 With your system connected to the company or even the cops, they will be able to respond promptly.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the point of having a alarm security system<\/a> if you don\u2019t use it?\u00a0 No, seriously.\u00a0 Many homeowners have an alarm, pay for it, and neglect to turn it on when they leave home.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 You have it anyway so you might as well use it.\u00a0 Better to be safe than beat yourself up later because you forgot to arm the alarm before you left for vacation and now your mother\u2019s pearls are gone along with the flat screen tv.<\/p>\n

Change The Batteries<\/strong><\/p>\n

Really.\u00a0 Batteries run out eventually.\u00a0 Everyone knows that.\u00a0 While some alarms are wired into the house\u2019s electricity, most have battery back-up.\u00a0 So check it every few months.\u00a0 You never know when a storm will come and knock out the power.\u00a0 Or when someone cut off your electricity in hopes of disarming your alarm and stealing your valuables.<\/p>\n

Passwords<\/strong><\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably seen articles on this already regarding bank pins and computer passwords.\u00a0 You get a default code when the system is first installed which means that everyone has the same password for a period of time.\u00a0 Change it as soon as possible and make it unique.\u00a0 It can be numbers or words that mean something to you, but no birthdays or pet names, please.<\/p>\n
