When to Replace Locks

Lock replacement is a common service that the residential and commercial security experts here at SOS Locksmith provide to our valued clients. In this blog entry, we’ll provide some detail as to the times locks SHOULD be replaced rather than simply rekeyed.

Do your locks appear degraded?

After years of use, locks begin to become worn down – and start looking it too. While your locks might operate as they’re supposed to, they might just LOOK old, but that could be enough reason to change them. By updating the appearance of your lock, you update the appearance of your property.

Improving Accessibility

Change your existing locks into electronic locks that can improve your accessibility options, quickly allow for access for employees, and can be custom tweaked for all of your security needs. Keypad locks are a great option, as they can have custom passwords be programmed in and deleted on command.

Malfunctioning Locks

If your locks are refusing to engage or disengage, if they are wobbling or shifting, if they are getting stuck- or really, if they are experiencing any type of malfunction or issue, don’t wait to have them replaced. The longer a dysfunctional lock remains in operation, it’s degradation will increase exponentially, so you’ll need to replace the lock anyway eventually.

Post-Burglaries

Make sure to replace your locks if you find yourself the victim of a burglary. Break-ins can occur for a wide variety of reasons – but if one happens to you, make sure to replace your locks to help prevent a recurrence.

Person having Access to your Property

Did you find out that an individual holds keys to your property when you don’t want them to? This could be a former employee, a janitor, delivery person, construction worker, cleaner, or anybody – if you just let-go staff, or had construction completed and realized that the construction personnel have keys, it’s time to replace your lock.
